SMALL ACTS OF RESISTANCE NO. 2: STRONGER
This participant's #smallactofresistance was based on lived experience of homelessness & addiction caused by domestic violence. The monologue she wrote during the project served as a voiceover to the silent embodied act performed by other participants in the group and spoke of the "invisibility" of homeless women.
Since 2010, homelessness has risen by 73%, and is on the rise again in Islington.
A recent article in the Big Issue reported that: 'Women are often missing from rough sleeping counts because they tend to be less visible than male rough sleepers due to the risk of violence on the streets. That means women are more likely to seek shelter in cafes, transport hubs or other places rather than bedding down outside. (Liam Geraghty, Big Issue, 10 March 2023)
The participant stated that the project enabled her to feel "safe to share my experiences and access my own voice".
Her #smallactofreistance played out to Brittany Spear's 'Stronger'.
