RECOVERIST THEATRE PROJECT: CASE STUDY - CATRIONA MCCOLL
After leaving school in 1970 I went to drama school (The Guildford School of Acting ) and then worked in theatre and TV for 11 years. I then retrained as a drama therapist and worked mainly in psychiatry. My last job before I retired was in a medium secure hospital which was like a mythical world in which people had killed their parents/ children or set fire to buildings.
I have always danced and just after I retired I found the Sadlers Wells Company of Elders and Sage Dance Company, both for people over 60. I joined the project to get back to acting. I think I saw a poster in the library. I wanted to work with likeminded people and the chance to work together on a project. It reminded me of the power of drama and its ability to bring about change and just how much I love drama and theatre. I’ve been going to the theatre more. Because of this project i was given the chance to be in a film. It was a very positive experience and was made so by the non-acting staff.
Q: Is there anything that you would change about the project?
A: Make it longer
Q: If you were to give this project a score out of 10, what would it be, and why?
A: 10. It was perfect
